What Can Cause High Blood Pressure?
It is a wellknown fact that high blood pressure is a major health problem, and now it is more common and becoming a subject of increasing concern in the UK.
This is plainly obvious from the following statistics and facts published by Public Health England:
- High blood pressure is the third biggest risk factor for disability and premature deaths, after smoking, in England.
- One in four individuals is affected by high blood pressure.
- At least 50% of all the strokes and cardiac arrests are associated with high blood pressure
- High blood pressure is also one of the major risk factors for developing dementia and chronic kidney diseases. In England, more than 5.5 million people have undiagnosed elevated blood pressure and continue to be untreated, thus putting their lives at grave risk.
It has been estimated that high blood pressure will affect more than 1.5 billion people across the world by 2025.
