Delhi Introduces Mobile Vans for Senior Citizens’ Health Scheme Enrollment
The Delhi government has deployed mobile vans across all Vidhan Sabha constituencies to assist senior citizens and less tech-savvy individuals in enrolling for the Ayushman Bharat Vaya Vandana Yojna, a health insurance scheme offering ₹10 lakh coverage. This move is part of a 100-day plan to expand healthcare access. Additionally, 22 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) will be launched, with a total of 1,139 planned across Delhi to provide free basic healthcare services.

Rise in COVID-19 Cases Due to New Variants
India is witnessing a gradual increase in COVID-19 cases, with 1,010 active cases reported as of May 27, 2025. Kerala leads with 430 active cases, followed by Maharashtra (210), and Tamil Nadu and Karnataka also seeing increases. The surge is attributed to two new variants: NB.1.8.1 and NF.7, mutations of the JN.1 strain. While these variants are currently considered low risk, health authorities emphasize the importance of hygiene, masking, and vaccination.
Gurgaon Hospitals Directed to Establish Flu OPDs
In response to the rise in respiratory illnesses, the health department in Gurgaon has instructed all government and private hospitals to set up dedicated flu outpatient departments (OPDs) and flu corners. These units will cater to individuals exhibiting symptoms common to both influenza and COVID-19, such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Hospitals are also required to assess their preparedness and ensure they have the necessary infrastructure and trained personnel.

FSSAI Urges Reduction in Oil Consumption to Combat Obesity
At the 47th Central Advisory Committee meeting held on May 27 in New Delhi, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) urged all States and Union Territories to enhance efforts in combating obesity by aiming for a 10% reduction in oil consumption. The meeting emphasized the need for increased public awareness and targeted local actions, including the establishment of ‘sugar boards’ in schools to promote healthier dietary habits.

New 50-Bed AYUSH Hospital to Be Established in Dhule
A new 50-bed AYUSH hospital will be established within the Dhule civil hospital premises, announced Dhule MP Shobha Bachhav. The project, sanctioned with a budget of ₹15 crore by the AYUSH ministry, aims to provide alternative medicine therapies, including Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy, along with modern allopathic care where necessary. The facility will also include diagnostic services and is expected to serve as a major health resource for the Dhule district.
