The Risk Of Treating Misinformation Opposing Choices As Important As Scientific Findings

Rewire President and Editor-in-Chief Jodi Jacobson chastised journalists in an essay published on May 23 for drawing erroneous conclusions between medical professionals and anti-choice fanatics in an attempt to “represent both sides” of the abortion access argument. Jacobson’s criticism focused on an Associated Press item published on May 18th, which discussed a measure that the South Carolina legislature enacted prohibiting abortions after 19 weeks. The bill was based on the erroneous theory that fetuses can experience pain as late as 20 weeks after conception.
