One of the sectors with the highest levels of regulation is healthcare. The rules are always changing, which makes things much more difficult. Healthcare businesses nowadays need to be nimble enough to continuously explore new territory and change the way they do things. The existing paradigm of care needs to undergo significant modifications in light of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The three main goals of these modifications are to: 1) extend the reach of preventive care programs; 2) implement a pay-for-performance (P4P) reimbursement model; and 3) put more emphasis on patient-centered outcomes. The IT infrastructures and workflows used in healthcare today will need to be significantly improved in order to implement these drastic changes.
