Decades later, mental health can affect memory
People who suffer from depression on a regular basis as adults are more likely to face memory issues in later life, according to recent research from the United Kingdom. Researchers have previously demonstrated that mental health issues such as depression can have a transient impact on a person’s memory. For example, a 2016 study published in the journal Cognition and Emotion revealed that working memory was worse in those with dysphoria, a chronic feeling of discontent or dissatisfaction that is frequently a hallmark of depression, than in those without any mental health issues.
