Administration warns that a House challenge to the health law might increase premiums.

In Washington According to the Obama administration, if the ruling is confirmed on appeal, the House Republicans’ victory in federal court last week could result in millions of people paying much higher health insurance rates. And according to administration officials and health policy experts, the federal government and taxpayers may end up bearing a large portion of the expense of those higher rates. The government would be prohibited from compensating insurers for discounts offered to millions of low-income customers under the Affordable Care Act, according to the decision made by Judge Rosemary M. Collyer of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Without it, insurers would have to raise premiums for many people who buy insurance via the online marketplaces established by the health reform, according to the government.
